The ASU Bilingual Press | Editorial Bilingüe is pleased to announce a new partnership with CantoMundo to present the CantoMundo Chapbook Prize.

Poets are invited to submit 15–25 pages of poetry in English by May 30, 2026. The winning poet will have their submission translated by an accomplished literary translator into Spanish. The Chapbook will then be published in a bilingual edition.

The winning poet will also receive $1,000, 10 copies of their published chapbook, and an invitation to be a featured presenter at the Desert Nights, Rising Stars (DNRS) conference in Tempe, Arizona, in 2027 with travel and lodging covered.

This contest is open to poets who have not yet published a full-length poetry collection (chapbooks are okay) and who are not currently under contract with a publisher. Submissions are welcome from all poets whose work speaks to the Latinx experience and who reside in the United States.

The final judge for the CantoMundo Chapbook Prize is Ariana Brown.

Submissions will be open from April 1, 2026, through May 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. MST. The shortlist will be announced in October 2026.

We do accept simultaneous submissions; however, please notify us promptly by withdrawing your manuscript on Submittable if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Poets may submit one entry, consisting of a single PDF document. Poets are responsible for securing all permissions to reprint any poems that have been previously published. Please be sure to list all previously published poems in the Acknowledgements of the manuscript. Submissions must be original work, and we do not accept poems created using AI or generative AI tools, including ChatGPT.

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a $20 entry fee, payable through Submittable at the time of submission. CantoMundistas are eligible for a fee waiver.

Results will be announced in December 2026 on our website, social media platforms, and other national outlets once a winner has been selected.

No, at this time we are only accepting submissions in English.

No, chapbooks must not have been previously published (including self-publishing). Individual poems may have been previously published in literary magazines; however, you are responsible for securing permission to reprint any such work. Please be sure to list all previously published poems in the manuscript’s acknowledgements.

No, if your manuscript is selected, we will work with a translator to produce a Spanish version of your work.

No, all poets are invited.

Visual poetry is welcome as part of the text. We could accommodate black-and-white images and, in some cases, 2-3 full-color images.

Spanish or Spanglish can certainly be incorporated, particularly in dialogue. While some judges read Spanish, not all are fully bilingual; as a result, poems written entirely in Spanish may not be evaluated with the same level of depth.

The table of contents and acknowledgements are not included in the page count/limit. You may include them in your submission, and they will not count toward the 25-page limit.
