Founded in 1973, the Bilingual Press | Editorial Bilingüe (BP) was established to publish fiction, poetry, art catalogues, and academic writing about the Chicano community at a time when the major mainstream publishing houses were not interested in Chicano writing.
Since that time, the BP has published hundreds of titles in English, Spanish, and bilingual editions. After a period of dormancy, the press is now relaunching with the newly created librito series.
The librito series honors the press's legacy of producing high quality art books, now in a reimagined format at an affordable price and in a convenient size. Through the librito series, we aim to provide broad, bilingual access to the complexity and beauty that pervades Latino and Chicano art. The first librito, Dia de los Muertos: A Chicano Arts Legacy written by Dr. Mathew Sandoval, will be released in both English and Spanish editions in October 2025.
La Editorial Bilingüe | Bilingual Press (BP), fue fundada en 1973 con el propósito de publicar ficción, poesía, catálagos de arte y escritos académicos sobre la comunidad chicana en una época en la que las principales editorials tradicionales no estaban interesadas el la escritura chicana.
Desde entonces, BP ha publicado cientos de títulos en inglés, español y ediciones bilingües. Después de un periodo de inactividad, la editorial se relanza con la nueva serie Librito.
La serie Librito honra el legado de la editorial de producir libros de arte de alta calidad, ahora en un formato reinventado, a un precio asequible y con un tamaño práctico. A través de la serie Librito, nuestro objetivo es brindar un amplio acceso y de forma bilingüe a la complejidad y belleza prevalentes en el arte latino y chicano.
